I love this!
From David Scharfenberg in The Boston Globe:
We jumped from job to job. Put off marriage. Never bought a place. And we never heard teh end of it. We were drifters, they said. Layabouts. But now, in the cold glare of the recession, everything looks different. It is time to re-evaluate that much-maligned Gen X archetype: the American Slacker. While the best minds on Wall Street cooked up the real estate mess that destroyed a global economy, we were sensible enough to steer clear of that overpriced condo and move into a dingy, three-bedroom rental with a few of our meathead friends. Those of us who took low-wage jobs were not just marking time. We were doing work we cared about, as journalists and teachers and social workers. We alos understood, before most, that something had shifted-that we were moving to an economy of telecommuters and independent contractors and less-than-loyal employers.

The sweet taste of berry
In a cave of chocolate.
No moldy love here.

I don’t know why, but I love this photo (taken outside a local drugstore this evening). Perhaps it hints at our economic downturn? Or maybe it just shows nature’s beauty? You decide.

It’s a very, very wonderful day. The beginning of a new era; one of peace, resiliency, and love for our planet – and each other.
I’m proud to be an American today – just as I was proud on Nov 4th and just as I will be for the forthcoming years.
Let’s remember Obama’s words today, that we must strive to better ourselves through strength, companionship, and compassion. Let’s make a better, healthier world.
Let’s begin this today and never, never end.

I believe this is the same young woodpecker as was around a couple days ago… Hungry little bugger.

This is the first stanza from Sankaracharya’s Song of the Soul (found in Iyengar’s Light on Yoga). It’s beautiful and applies to all of us – yogis or not.

I am neither ego nor reason, I am neither mind nor thought.
I cannot be heard nor cast into words, nor by smell nor sight ever caught:
In light and wind I am not found, nor yet in earth and sky -
Consciousness and joy incarnate, Bliss of the Blissful am I.

The birdfeeder is hopping today!
Here’s another photo. This young woodpecker frequents the hanging suet quite often.
